Faint dizzy short of breath pain
This is not me.

I broke my collarbone recently. I can confirm that it’s just as painful as everybody says.

So I’ve been off my water ski for over a month. And my bicycle. Out of the gym, out of the karate dojo, and actually out of every single thing that I like to do.

I approached the spin bikes at the gym this week, intent on making my triumphant return to the sporting arena. You’ve got to start somewhere, after all.

But then I spotted that familiar warning sticker on the spin bike:

Stop if you feel faint, dizzy, short of breath, or pain

Now it might just be me, but these days if I’m going to stop exercising when I feel faint, dizzy, breathless, or pain – I’m not going to be doing much of anything at all!

In fact: faint, dizzy, short of breath, and in pain is exactly how I feel at the end of all my slalom passes.

With my broken clavicle, I have been in this outlawed state for pretty much every waking moment of the last month (and most of my sleeping moments too), and there’s no sign of that changing any time soon.

So I rode that spin bike anyway. Rode it like I stole it.  Faint, dizzy, short of breath, and in pain.

You’ve got to start somewhere, after all…

Do today what others won’t, so you can do tomorrow what others can’t.
